how to delete unwanted character in new blank word doc

I use to be able to correct when I opened this template file by mistake but
have forgotten, I've tried to repair and reinstall, get error source file
zf561407.cab missing?

If there is an unwanted character in new blank documents, see:

If the "character" is the pilcrow, it's a nonprinting formatting character;
press Ctrl+Shift+8 to toggle it off.
