How to delete Index.dat

How do I delete the hidden file "index.dat" in the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\....\....\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 ?

Before Windows XP it was possible to delete the file via DOS, but what do I
do in Windows
XP?

Sincerely,

Go into folder options and on the view tab under hidden
files and folders put a dot in "show hidden files and
folders" and there you go. Be careful that you only delete
the crap not usefull dll's and such. Keep smiling.

Logon as someone else, and then you can delete it. This will also cause
IE to delete all the associated temporary files (and rebuild a blank
index.dat, length 64k, iirc) when the user next logs on.

.Get a program like 'Internet sweeper Pro' You can't get
rid of the dat file but its overwritten..now you have an
empty dat file for a few seconds!!! There are options in
the software, when and how often you want it overwritten.

Do it after booting with the F8 as the BIOS info goes to black, and
using 'Safe Mode with Command Prompt', which is as near as can be to a
DOS boot.

Delete *everything* in the folder - files no longer indexed in the
index.dat will just be clogging the space. So at the
Documents and Settings\<you>\Local Settings\Temp Int Files\ >
prompt, use
DEL /S /F *.*
to clear out everything - the Content.ie5 subfolder and directory
structure under it will also be rebuilt when you reboot
