How to create a CD or DVD of jpg pictures and play it on a DVD player?

How can one burn a CD or DVD to display jpgs from a DVD player? I
have tried playing a disc (on a home theater system) that contains
picture files which can be read on my PC but not on my TV-DVD player.
I have Nero 6 Ultra Edition and CompuPic Pro 6.23. Please help.
Thanks

On the DVD player I have hooked up to my TV the .jpg files only need to
be in a folder on the CD-R. When the CD-R loads into the player a list
of the folders appears, allowing me to use the remote control to select
the desired folder and then the image I want to start the slide show
with. Note that with a regular DVD player there wouldn't be much point
to the pictures being larger than 640X480. Much larger images might
significantly slow the load times of the slide show. From what I
understand this will NOT work with any sort of DVD+R, DVD-R DVD+RW or
DVD-RW.

That depends very much on the capabilities of the player. Some do understand
jpeg, divx, mp3, wma, etc -some don't.

The bottom line is that VOBs (the format used by DVD films) are the only
common denominator between all DVD players, so encoding into a slide-sequence
using that format might be one answer. Unfortunately VOB is not a
particularly effificient encoding, jpeg and divx/xvid will get much more onto
a disc.

Try MemoriesOnTV, available here http://www.codejam.com/ . You can create
a video slideshow with music, works great.

NeroVision[Express] can create slideshows on DVD, Video CD, Super Video CD
and Mini DVD media.
Use "Make Slide Show" from the main menu and choose your media type. It will
be a bit of a learning curve and I don't intend to go through the procedures
here.

It's not terribly sophisticated but another way is to use Nero Express to
create a slide show on Video CD or Super Video CD. Which one you choose
depends on the compatibility of your DVD player. That should be stated in
its specifications. Video CD (VCD) would be compatible with a wider range of
DVD players. VCD format is lower resolution than SVCD. Standard TV is quite
low resolution anyway.

Try burning on a CDRW first. Open Nero Express and select CD-CDRW as the
recorder (it changes the menu options on the same page). Then select
Videos/Pictures -> Video CD. Tick the "Enable VCD Menu" box and then add the
picture files(or videos) you want to use. You can put several hundred
pictures on the disk or about 1 hour of video. The scale at the bottom of
the page will show you when the disc is full. Select all of the pictures and
then click Properties. This opens a box where you can set the default pause
time and transition effects. Also use Properties on individual pictures to
change their Title, or pick a different transition effect or pause time.
Click Next when done to get to the menu customisation page where you can
alter text, background and layout of the menus. Click Next again, enter in a
name for the disc, choose your burning speed and tick verify data to double
check disc integrity.

If you get verification errors try burning it again using a slower burning
speed. Test the finished disc in your DVD player.
