How to close Ctrl+Alt+Delete window?

Dee

I have a Task Manager window that I cannot close down.

Running Windows XP Pro (not networked).

Pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del. Expected to see the Windows Task Manager screen.

Instead, I get the middle three-quarters of the expected screen. I get
the part that shows the running tasks, and as far down to the foot of
the window that shows the three buttons, End Task: Switch To: New Task.
But the top quarter of the window I expected is missing - no title bar,
no menu bar, no tabs.

And, importantly, no cross in the top left hand corner. I cannot find a
way of closing this window. Alt+F4 does nothing either. Right-clicking
on the task-bar button produces nothing.

Please can you tell me what is happening, and how to cope with it and be
able to close this Task Manager window?

Sorry, should be "No cross in the top right-hand corner", not left -hand
corner as I originally wrote.

Dee,

Double click on the border and it will toggle to the normal view.

Hi Mike,

Thank you so much for your response. I did what you said, and it worked.

I have never come across a "double-click on the border and it will
toggle" situation before - something new you have taught me.

Many thanks,

Dee.

You're welcome Dee.

I'm not sure why the Task Manager window was set up with this feature, but
anytime you double click it's border it will toggle between the normal view
and the minimal view which unfortunately hides the tabs and the menu bar. I
have not encountered another window that exhibits this same behavior. Most
windows, including Task Manager, you can double click on the top border and
toggle between normal view and full screen view but nothing gets hidden.

Good luck,

Mike

I don't know what is causing the problem (monitor screen not centered
perhaps??) but have you just tried hitting the ESCape key on your
keyboard?

Hi Mike,

I had a thought about that Task Manager Window.

If you bring up the tab that shows graphs, e.g. CPU usage, then
double-click the border to get rid of the tabs and menu bar, you are
left with a box, the sides of which can be dragged inwards. The CPU
graph can be reduced to the size of a postage stamp, and can be made to
be Always on Top, and dragged into a corner of your screen. If you want
to see what the graph shows whilst doing some particular task . . .

Just a thought.

Regards

Dee.

Hi Dee,

Nice discovery! That is something I never thought of trying. There may be a
purpose for this feature after all, besides just to annoy people when their
Task Manager tabs and menu bar disappear.
