Tabs at top of Ctrl-Alt-Del have disappeared

Please keep in mind that I'm a complete novice with little computer
knowledge. The tabs at the top of the ctrl-alt-del window have disappeared.
I'm running Windows XP 2 Professional. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this
and or what caused it (in layman's terms). Obviously, the only way I have to
close this window, once opened, is to use Alt-F4. Thank you for any help you
can give.

It sounds as if you have Task Manager running in "Tiny
footprint mode". Double click the border to restore it to its original
appearance.

Why is part of my Task Manager gone?

You are referring to the Task Manager and you are in Tiny Footprint Mode.
Simply double-click somewhere in the body of the active task manager window
or in the small blank space between the border and the information pane.

You're running in what's called "Small Footprint Mode." To change back
and forth from this mode to regular mode, just double-click on the
border.

Undoubtedly this happened because you inadvertently double-clicked on
the border.
