How to change send/receive mail accounts processing order

L

Leo Bueno

I use Outlook 2003 with two email (SMTP) accounts, let's call them WEB
and ISP.

WEB is designated as the "default" account and is listed first on the
E-mail accounts list.

However, when I click send/receive, Outlook processes them in the
opposite order (according to the Send/Receive Progress window):

ISP - sending
ISP - receiving
WEB - sending
WEB - receiving

I would like to have Outlook process WEB processed before ISP.

Thanks.

Outlook 2003 will process them simultaniously unless the accounts are being
kept on the same server. The progress in the dialogs just shows what is
going on based on how fast the servers respond. The fact that the server of
your ISP responds faster actually makes sense as that is on the same network
you are on.

Just curious; why do you find this important?

If an email message does not get through to its recipients, i.e., the
message bounces, the ISP account does not send back an error message
indicating the email failed.

The WEB account sends a "mailer-deamon. . . " type message indicating
the message did not go through.

I find that feedback very useful.

Actually, all I really care is about making sure that mail is sent
through the WEB account's SMTP server. So, the receiving order is not
important.

Wondering whether I should just leave blank the outgoing mail server
field in the ISP account settings.

I think you are really confused on your settings. When you have multiple
accounts configured you can use the Accounts button to select the account to
be used. You'll use your default account when sending new mails and the
account you received the item with when forwarding/replying to an item.

Confused indeed.

Are you saying that Outlook always uses the "default" account to send
mail? If so, that solves the problem.

If not, then is there a work-around to have only the default account
send the mail?

Nope, not on replys and forwards; then it will use the account you received
it with. You can of course alter the SMTP settings on the second account to
match the first.
