how to block msn messenger

Does anybody know how I can block MSN Messenger on a small network? I have
been reading heaps on different ports, IP addresses, etc. From all the
articles I read I would almost think it's not possible, but then I see all
these universities and big companies blocking it. So it must be possible!

But how?

All you have to do is block connections to *.msgr.hotmail.com.
