Window's Messenger and MSN Messenger

Hi folks,

I'm hoping someone can help me with this.

It seems odd that MSN Messenger and Window's Messenger are different
programs. Why didn't MS just upgrade Window's Messenger?

Either way, is it possible to permanently disable Window's Messenger, and
not MSN Messenger?

I've seen tips on how to disable Window's Messenger, but I am concerned it
will kill MSN Messenger also.

Thanks

Mark

Why don't you just set Window's Messenger's options not to run
automatically when you log on to Windows ? I think that's the best way
to solve your problem. Just go to general or preference label, and
uncheck that option.

The opposite thing should be done with the MSN. That's the way you can
keep both programs, just in case.

And remember that you always can download MSN Messenger, if you make a
mistake. Anyway, I think that nothing will happen to the MSN if you
want to get rid of Window's Messenger.

Hi John,

The strange thing is that despite having disabled Window's Messenger from
starting it keeps starting! :)

If the worst comes to the worst I'll rename the MSMSGS.EXE, and hopefully
this will foil it ;-)

It's irritating because sometimes Window's Messenger logs in last, and at
other times MSN Messenger logs in last. I am surprised that Microsoft didn't
figure out some compatibility between the two, especially for those poor
peeps who wouldn't have a clue what was happening.

Cheers
