Block msn Messenger 6.2

I am a network administrator and I want to block the msn
messenger 6.2. I would like to know if is possible to
block it using the windows Xp firewall?
and I want to know wich port I have to disconnect. to
block it.

Greetings Juan,

The Windows XP firewall blocks incoming connections only -- Messenger (for its most basic
functionality) uses outgoing connections exclusively.

Messenger uses both ports 1863 and 80, so unless you want to remove access to the web also,
you can't use port blocking to block Messenger. Instead, depending on what kind of software
you have in place on your network, you can simply block outgoing access to *.msgr.hotmail.com
addresses.

Also, you could use Windows XP's Group Policies to stop Messenger from being run (this won't
stop third-party clients like Trillian however):
