How do I use Wingdings?

This one is not technical but I feel it is an odd one :)

Now you see that smiley above. I see some of my coleagues use the smiley
icon, the one present in Wingdings in between the regular font.

I can surely find it through "Wingdings" in the font box but thats time
taking. Is there any shortcut to toggle between these signs and the font that
we normally use.

When you have Word configured as your e-mail editor AutoCorrect for Word
takes care of this by default.
