How do I turn off my system restore?

I have a trojan horse dialer.6.Q virus. My avg anti-virus(AVG 6.0) scan doesnt pick it up. I have windows XP

I want to know (step by step)how to turn off the 'system restore' to delete the infected files(system volume information)?
I can get to system restore, but there is no box so I can check it, to disable(turn off) the system restore. All that comes up are 1. Restore my computer to an earlier tim
2.Create a restore poin
3.Undo my last restor

I tried 'restore my comp to an earlier time' but it didn't get rid of the virus
Thanks in advance for any info..

Turning off System Restore will delete all past restore points. Right
click on My Computer and select Properties. There's a System Restore
tab there where you can turn it on and off. Don't forget to restart if
after you've cleared the trojan. Good luck.

You can also try deleting all but the last restore point
using disk clean-up, by opening My Computer and then right
clicking on the drive (s) and selecting properties. That
will open a drive properties windows (a pie chart to show
usage main visual) and there is a disk clean up button.
When you click that there is a "more" tab with the option to
delete all but the last point. If the last point is clean,
the problem is fixed.

Otherwise, follow the procedure of opening system properties
and the system restore tab. You can set various parameters
also for allotted disk space, etc.
