How do I stop sending messages that were already deleted?

I've had problems sending mail from outlook and had to use my internet
account. Since the outgoing mail wouldn't leave Outlook, I deleted it. When I
click send/receive it still shows sending 1/5 messages but the messages
aren't there to send. How can I get rid of these phantom messages?
