How do I stop getting three of the same e-mails?

1) disable scanning yoru incoming mail with an antivirus program.
2) increase the server timeout value on the Advanced tab of the account
properties pages
3) specify a send/receive interval no less than about 8-10 minutes.

If I disable my antivirus for e-mail, want that make me my computer more
vulunable to stuff out there?

I didn't say to disable your antivirus. I said to disable its mail scanning
feature. That will not make you more vulnerable.
