The card i have, geforce 6600 is supposed to have built-in DVD decoding, but
windows media player or real player don't seem to be aware of this, they
request a video codec to be installed as to enable DVD playback. So how do i
play DVDs using my video card's hardware capabilities?

Have you tried installing the codec?

Well, no, one doesn't come with the video card's installation disk because
it's supposed to have hardware decoding support.

I meant the one that Windows Media Player is asking for!

1. Open XP's "Help and Support Center"
2. Type DVD in the search box, hit enter.
3. Click on "DVD Troubleshooter".
4. You probably need a new DVD decoder or reinstall the one you had.

A DVD player usually comes as part of the software bundle with your card. My
6800 came with Cyberlink PowerDVD.
