How do I number the halves, after I divide the page in half?

I need the page on landscape. I then need to split the page in half. I know
how to do all this. However, I want to number the halves. For example, the
first half is "page 1", the second half is "page 2".

I am using Mircosoft Word 2002.

Thanks
Keith

Although it is possible to split pages using columns in earlier versions,
and you can use a calculated field to provide page numbers, in Word 2000 and
above this is not necessary. Use the "2 pages per sheet" option on the
Margins tab of Page Setup, and you will get two logical pages per physical
sheet. You number those pages just as you would full-sheet pages.

Choose File - Print. Under Zoom, set Pages per sheet to 2 pages. This should
give you exactly what you're looking for, and numbering is handled
automatically.

That assumes that one has created full-size pages. If the user is just
starting out, I would suggest the "2 pages per sheet" option in Page Setup
instead, especially if US Letter is being used. While A5 has the same aspect
ratio as A4, 5.5" x 8.5" is not the same as 8.5" x 11", so some distortion
will be observed. Also, it is more satisfactory to be able to Print Preview
the pages as they will appear and to use the font sizes that will be
effective in the printout.
