How do I complete a form by entering a tick in a check box?

I've downloaded a form that has tick boxes that I need to record an "X" in
but can't seem to be able to do it.

Jim,

Is this "form" a Microsoft Word document? And if it is, is it protected?
(See the Word help topics on 'protecting a form' for more information.)

If it's a Word "form" and it's properly protected, then you should be able
to tick and untick the checkboxes by clicking on them or by tabbing to them
and pressing the spacebar.

And if it's not protected, then (a) you can double-click the box and use the
Form Field Options to change the box from unchecked to checked, or (b) you
can protect the document (but most likely it contains no other form fields
because the creator didn't know what he was doing). Alternatively, if it's a
CheckIt/UnCheckIt macrobutton field, you'll need to double-click to change
it from unchecked to checked.
