If MS antispyware is installed on a machine that can't
connect to the internet due to virus/spyware problem how
can it be updated with the latest spyware signatures; is
it possible to download an update file rather than using
Internet updating?

Hi

Well, first read this if you already removed som spyware and
therefore have no connection.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;892350

If this isnt the problem you need to update these 3 files
from Program files / Microsoft Antispyware.

gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd
gcDeterminationData.gcd
gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

Burn them to a CD, within this CD also include
Lavasofts Adaware
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022-10399602.html?tag=list
And CCleaner for temporarily junk removal
www.ccleaner.com

Maybe also Stinger from McAfee to check common virus:

After removal read this MS page:

Steve,

Try this:

Use the method below which fits your OS version. If you are on XP SP2, use
the second method:

1) (winsock reset for 2k, xp pre sp2, and 2003 pre sp1)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;817571

2) (Winsock reset for xpsp2)

netsh winsock reset

enter
restart machine.

After resetting Winsock, applications which have added themselves to the
stack will need to be reinstalled. These may include third-party VPN
clients, some McAfee privacy or network security related software, and
others--check what is working and what is not.

Plun,
Yup. Stinger is there also. I've got a couple of 512 USB's that are
lockable and just carry utilities on them so I don't pollute the web or the
network while trying to fix whatever mix the user got themselves into this
time.
