How can I make sure tweakui is totally gone?

Hi guys, I installed tweakui last saturday, I wanted it for a specific
setting. I wanted to change my pre login screensaver, which I did with tweak.
Shortly after I crashed, recovered from a serious error etc. I did a disc
scan. Next day I started getting corrupted system file errors (sys32). I
removed tweak via add/remove, and tried to do a system restore (twice), it
wouldnt work. So I did a non destructive recovery. It appered it had done the
trick, but the following day I got a wdscan corrupt file error. I did another
n.d. recovery.
Now the only problem I'm getting is if the screensaver that I copied using
tweak tries to kick in pre-login, it crashes my system.
I've now deleted the screensaver (amazing xp one) and turned off all my
screensavers, and it seems ok, but when I did this and did a test to see if
it worked yesterday evening, it tried to kick the pre login screensaver in,
but obviously couldnt as I'd deleted it, which leads me to believe that
theres still some of tweak lurking somewhere on my system. I'm running
windows xp home sp2, on a laptop, 512 ram, intel celeron 1.3.
My question then being, is there anyway I can totally remove any last trace
of tweakui? I installed the one for sp1 onwards.
Thanks guys and girls Mc

AFAIK, TweakUI is just a simple standalone EXE (at least the version I'm
using). You delete the one file, and it's 100% gone.

Now...TweakUI is really just a UI to conveniently edit a fixed set of
registry entries. It doesn't track any of the *changes* it makes to the
registry, which is probably what you're really after...

Thanks Homer, so does that mean that once I've removed via add/remove its
toally gone? And do I need to edit the reg to get rid of the changes it made,
and if so what do I need to edit. I've been in the reg a couple times but
only with complete written guidance from you guys on here. Cheers Mc

The problem is that you don't know which entry(ies) TweakUI changed.

That being said, your best bet may be to actually reinstall TweakUI :) and
then use it to undo whatever changes you made the first time around--that
is, change the screensaver back to the original one instead of leaving it
pointing to the file you deleted.

I'm not familiar with this "amazing xp" screensaver. If this is some
third-party program, maybe it's making some silly assumptions about a user
logged in (who knows why it would need that though) and then crashes since
there's nobody, but it's hard to believe even that would've gotten your
system in a state where it would start corrupting files...

You appear to be mixing up TweakUI and changes that you may have made with
TweakUI. You perhaps have a problem with what you did with TweakUI (although
it isn't clear to me from above exactly what you did) but that's no reason
to remove TweakUI.

TweakUI is simply a tool. Think of it as something like a hammer. If you
didn't do a good job of nailing up the 2x4 that supports the roof, the roof
may fall down. But in that case, you need to fix the 2x4 and the roof, not
throw away the hammer. TweakUI itself can't do anything to hurt you unless
you use it (and even then, there isn't much damage you can cause with it).

Hi again. I dont see how I could have made a mistake in using tweak, as the
interface is very basic. I simply copied my exsisting scr to become my
pre-login one. Anyhow, I followed your advice Homer and re-installed tweak,
reversed my changes and then had a lookie in my add/remove list. It appears
the amazing scr was installed without me knowing, maybe with a media player
or some such, the system files for this scr were to do with Anark. It was a
third party scr, didnt think I'd seen it before in my scr list, and so I
removed it.
Hopefully now my system will once again run sweet as a nut. Thanks Homer
your a star. Mc
