Hotkey for copying

Trevor L.

BlankI often mistakenly copy all selected files in Explorer.

What is the combination of keys that does this so that I can avoid doing when I don't want to (which is most of the time)

I don't mean Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V. It is something else that occurs after the Ctrl-C, like Shift-Tab or Ctrl-Tab and I do it in error, not knowing what it is that I pressed

BlankWould you be holding down the control key while selecting multiple files then drag the mouse cursor more than 4 pixels. You need to drink more before using the computer to get rid of the DTs.

If not describe the result (names same/different or what folder they end up in)

Could it be Ctrl-Ins ? That was the standard in early versions of
Windows, I beieve. A quick test shows that several of my
application programs stil honor it; perhaps WinXP does as well.

Thanks, David

So simple :)

It is good to know what I was doing. Now I can choose to avoid doing it or even do it deliberately so I don't have to use ctrl-V.
You're right about the DTs. Strangely, my wife who drinks about one sherry a day has a much more shaky hand than I.

Thanks, Stan.

No, it wasn't Ctrl-Ins. That is over the right hand side of the keyboard and
would be difficult to do in error. David Candy's suggestion was correct.

It is great to have feedback from the NG on problems, whether simple or
complex. The simple ones are often the most annoying.

That's an IBM standard known as SAA CUA. Windows honours it and MS advises programs to honour it (and they are the keys I use). I tried getting the story out of MS on why they changed but I suspect it was the Office group that did it (I talk to the Windows programmers). But they don't want to talk about it (or don't know why).

Edit.com is a CUA program as was Windows 3.1.

But MS also says don't document that your program supports the key.

PS It takes three lines in a text file to include support, and delete three lines to remove support.

Gee Trevor...quit holding out on her. Let her down a few more to steady that hand of hers.

Thanks, David

Hi Janice,

Thanks for the response

Yeah, I wish she would have a few more, but it's her choice. I think it's something to do with old age - not strictly true - we are both in our early 60's :-D
