Hotfix over SP2

Hello all, this is my first post here.

I have a computer with an issue addressed directly by Q328934 - "Windows XP
stops responding (hangs) when you log off the computer if more than one user
is logged on".

The article suggests a Hotfix, which I have obtained from MS. This issue was
supposedly addressed with SP2, however, the OS came with SP2, and the issue
persists.

My question is this: can applying this Hotfix over SP2 help, or could it
hurt? The people I spoke with when I obtained the Hotfix couldn't really tell
me. Of course, I know I should set a restore point, and back up the registry.
I've never contacted MS before for a specific fix, thus, I've never applied
one.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would seriously doubt that installing a hotfix under these
circumstances will make things worse. But then again there is
Murphy's Law and the general observation that Murphy was an optimist;
so you should make adequate preparations before trying it. I would
even consider doing a full disk image backup if you have an imaging
program and the available disk space on another drive/partition to
save the image.

Good luck
