Hotfix for Shared Documents problem

J

Julie

Microsoft discusses the problem with opening the shared
documents file here:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831938#appliesto

and says a hotfix is available...but I can't figure out
how to get the stupid hotfix. I've contacted Dell(where I
got the computer) and they didn't seem to know anything
about this. Microsoft keeps referring me to the place
where I bought my computer when I try to find the hotfix
online... ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS WHERE TO FIND THE HOTFIX.
That's it. I can download it and everything on my own.
Where is the stupid thing?

The only way to obtain this patch is to contact Microsoft as outlined in the article.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services
to obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone
numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;CNTACTMS

NOTE: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may
be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update
will resolve your problem. The typical support costs will apply to additional support
questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

Hi

As the article states, you need to call Microsoft Product Support Services to
obtain it (outside the US, customers should contact their local Microsoft
subsidiary.). The support call will be be free as long as you refer to the
Knowledge Base Article number (Q831938) and ask for nothing more.

You will need to find the phone number from here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[LN];CNTACTMS

For WinXP:

In the wizard, Select WinXP, and Basic, and then "It was purchased separately"

For USA, you end up here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;Prodoffer31

Use phone number 425-635-3311
