History help to make pages "stick" after logging off and closing b

I've just read what I could find on this site under "History", and not having
found anything helpful, I'd be grateful for help in configuring MS Explorer 6
(With updated XP and Norton) to retain pages I visit and which I wish to read
later.
I've done all that is recommended, both on and off-line to configure certain
urls so that I can read them later, but things are not as they should be. If
I change to History mode while online - no problem. Even when I go offline -
no problem, they are there. If I put the browser away, and then bring it back
- the history pages are gone, whilst I remain offline.
With thanks in advance - Ian

Ok, Don. Just checked out those two articles. The first is for IE 5, and I'm
using 6; and the second is for SP1, and I'm using SP2. Nevertheless, if I do
what they say (I'd come across them before), that does not solve my problem.
I note that the second says:
"NOTE: Some Web sites use HTTP headers or META tags within a Hypertext
Markup Language (HTML) or Active Server Pages (ASP) document itself, to
prevent their contents from being stored in your disk cache (Temporary
Internet Files). In this case, the Make available offline and Synchronize
options may appear to work, but the Web site content is not stored in your
disk cache. As a result, the site is unavailable for offline viewing. For
example, after you click the Make available offline option and then
synchronize your Hotmail inbox, you are unable to view your Hotmail inbox
offline."
but, is it possible that MS's own site, www.microsoft.com,is one such site?
Even after following all the configuration instructions, and ringing the
changes on the options, it is no longer there, once I've put away IE6 and
brought it back again.

Hi,
I doubt that MS is preventing the caching of most of their webpages. You
aren't clearing the cache everytime IE is closed are you? Internet Options>
Advanced> Security... Or, are you running any type of privacy program which
would be clearing the cache?

Don: I couldn't find a box for clearing the IE cache, but there is one for
emptying the temporary files folder. It was checked. I've unchecked it.
Also, I'm running Norton Firewall & Antivirus program and MS Svp 2's
equivalent. The latter is disabled.
I won't be able to check out for a day or two whether I can now access
downloaded material offline, but if you don't hear from me - that means all
is okay, so thanks now-Ian
