hide inactive network connection icons

hi,

My XP has the problem(KB902974 Disconnected Local Area Connection icon
is displayed after you click to clear the "notify me when this
connection has limited or no connectivity" check box in Windows XP
Service Pack 2) ,

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
1. Right-click Start, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Taskbar tab, click to select the Hide inactive icons check
box, and then click Customize.
3. Under Current Items, click Local Area Connection A network cable is
unplugged.
4. In the Behavior list, click Always hide, and then click OK two
times.

I tried the work around, in the step2 the inactive icons are gray, so I
can't click the customize.

so the work around can't be used.

any idea how to fix this issue?

Try going to Device Manager and disabling it.
