Hi,

Anyone help with this.....

...just got nice new additional hard drive..can't get it to go....what
happens when I attach it..Windows XP won't load....takes me to Set-up.

The new hard drive is a Western Digital SATA drive...exactly the same
size
and spec as the existing one that performs ok.

Motherboard is an ASUS A8N-E.

Not too clued up on Set-up..so not sure what if anything I need to change
or
add. its a Phoenix - Award if that makes a difference and it currently
shows:-

Primary IDE Master [HL-DT-ST DVDRAM]

Third SATA Master WDC WD3200JD-22K

Thanks John

Takes you to what setup exactly? The XP cdrom setup? Perhaps you need to
change the boot order of your HDD's in the bios so IDE system HDD is 1st.

Thanks v much for the advice...just before putting pc through window...just
double checked the connections...the SATA cable wasn't fully pushed
in!...silly boy!
Thanks again. John

I've had that happen to me too, twice. SATA cables fall off easily but I
have read they have locking cables you can buy now.

Just another case of a ''cheapest possible'' connector.
but I have read they have locking cables you can buy now.

I think they are only for external SATA. For internal, buy good
quality cables. The connectors are usually more precisely
manufactured and fit better.

No, the SATA locking cables are designed for a "regular" SATA data
connector, *not* for eSATA connectors. There are, however, SATA data cables
specifically designed for eSATA connectors. Every one of that type that I've
come across is (presumably) better-shielded (heavier-duty) than the
"regular" SATA data cable and of course includes an eSATA connector on one
or both ends of the cable. But I've never seen an eSATA data cable equipped
with the "locking" gizmo that's found on the "regular" locking SATA data
cables.

BTW, we've found that some of those "locking" SATA data cables just don't
fit into some SATA HDD's connectors because of their locking mechanism's
bulk. But when they fit they do seem more secure than the "regular" SATA
data cable.

Aha, cool!

I have not seen them. Got a link?

Ok, not so cool then.

I would expect that, yes.

Most of the online vendors carrying SATA data cables carry the eSATA type of
cable. A Google search for "SATA data cables" will point you to many of
these sources.

Yea, came with the mb for free. The falling off bit was helped by me
knocking them when working in the case but I've seen quite a few people
complain about SATA cables coming loose so I know it's not just me.
