Before I toss my laptop out the window-ha, thought I'd try you smart techies
first.
I ran a Norton scan and found 2 Trojan virus's. To begin fix:

Symantec says run "msconfig" to sart in 'safemode', my computer can't find
"msconfig".
Windows help says to Pres F8 while starting up, my computer starts normally.
"Windows for dummies" says to hold the control key, my computer starts
normally.

I searched for "safe", "safemode", "msconfig", "safeboot", I can't find
anything about safe mode. Did the virus eat it?

Restart the computer and keep pecking on the F8 key till you're prompted
for Safe Mode. Also try F5. You need to start pecking on the keys
early, before Windows starts loading: probably right after the keyboard
LEDs flash.

Yes, the malware might have hidden msconfig..

Also try running these.. update their definitions after the install,
then scan with them:

Malwarebytes© Corporation

SuperAntispyware
