Getting out of Safe Mode Login

Mike

Hi, I normally log onto a domain. When I'm off line I
still use that domain ID and PW to login ok.
I ran the msconfig tool and checked the /safeboot option
to boot up in safemode. Now... I can get out of booting
in safemode. There is only one "local" user
(administrator) and the password for it is locked away in
my desk at work. I tried rebooting and invoking the
bootup options by pressing F8. After selecting Normal
bootup, the OS still boots up in SafeMode. I tried this a
couple of times. So... I can't login to run the msconfig
tool again to uncheck the /safeboot option.

Question: Is there another way to boot in Normal mode?

Thanks
Mike

Have you tried to use Safe Mode w/ Networking from the boot menu that you
use F8 to invoke? This will load networking components and Group Policies so
that maybe you can try logging on as if you were logging on to your domain.
There is a local policy in Windows XP Pro that defines how many times a user
can log on to a local machine when a domain controller isn't available. By
trying to boot into Safemode with Networking, this policy should loaded,
allowing you to utilize your domain crudentials as you would in Normal Mode.
Once in Safemode you would have to use MSCONFIG to remove the /safeboot
swicth or edit the boot.ini directly, removing the /safeboot switch.
