Help! Need help with Remote Desktop

I'm trying to set up remote desktop on a friends computer. I haven't seen
the computer, I'm doing it by phone. He says he has XP. I got him to click
'start' and right click 'my computer' then click 'properties' and then click
'Remote'. When I do this procedure I get a Remote assistance box with a
check box and underneath a Remote desktop box with an 'Allow users...'
checkbox. He has the top Remote assistance box but not the Remote Desktop
box, he says there is only the one box and nothing else. Could it be he
isn't running XP ? Please advise!!!

It sounds like he is running XP Home edition...

XP Home can not act as a Remote Desktop host. Look at using UltraVNC with
its encryption plug-in and XP video driver (the driver is installed on the
XP host PC only) as an alternative. Use a *strong* password...
