Help! Missing "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in system tray

C

Chiang

I used Norton Internet Security 2002 for my firewall. 1
week ago, I performed a liveupdate. Ever since then, my
CPU was running at 100%. I discovered that it was due to
a process called Symantec Proxy Services. The PC was so
slow that some of the tray icons would not even show up!

I uninstalled it and now installed the free zonealarm.
Internet surfing is back to normal. CPU usage is also
acceptable.

However, the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon that was in my
system tray is missing. It also will not appear when I
plug in my USB thumbdrive.

When I check the control panel, the icon is called "Add
Hardware" instead of "Add/Remove Hardware".

What happened? Now whenever, I need to unplug my USB
devices, I need to shutdown the PC before I can safely do
so. It is so frustrating!

I appreciate any kind souls who know what is wrong and
what to do, please reply. Thanks in advance.

The above is correct. It should read:

Add Hardware
Add or Remove Programs

You need to install a spyware program. Without it you
will have the problem you started with. Get SpybotSD.exe
on the internet. run it religiously. Hide the spyware from
MicroSoft by 'exclude the manufacturer' on the search for
spyware.
Secondly, put your Windows xp disk in and run option to
install 'missing file/programs'. It will not do anything
if a file or program is there. good luck.
