Yikes! When I try and run Internet Explorer, Outlook
Express, and Windows Media Player all get errors and shut down!

I have tried tons of things (reinstalled Windows,
reinstalled Internet Explorer Service Pack 1) and several
other suggestions from Microsoft and nothing has worked.
I tried to install the Internet Explorer service pack to
fix problems with IE and OE shutting down, but it states I
need IE Service Pack 1, which is already installed.
AVG 6.0, SpyBot, Ad-aware don't find anything!
Help!!!!

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.
If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

CWShredder didn't find anything and nothing looked strange
with HJT. I still can't open IE and Windows Media Player,
but have noticed something strange.
I have 3 usernames for Outlook Express. 1 main account and
2 sub-accounts from the main (3 different usernames and
different e-mail addressess). I can open Outlook Express
using the Main username. I can view, send, and receive
mail for the main account only. I try to switch to the
other 2 accounts and it crashes! What is going on?
Help!

Did you try the spyware fixes while logged on as each of the problem users?

All spyware programs did not detect any spyware.
I cannot log into my other 2 Outlook Express accounts.
When I attempt to switch users, it crashes right after the
password screen loads. I don't have enough time to try and
log in (it crashes about 1 second after the password prompt
in OE).
Is there some setting or file that could have gone haywire?
I'm now thinking that my best bet is to wipe the hard drive
and start fresh. I don't want to do this, but there
doesn't seem to be anyone else who has experienced this
problem and/or solved it.
I did send an error report to MS. Is there a way to check
and see if they have ever addressed the problem before?

I don't know what else to suggest, and I don't know of a way to check to see
if anyone else has submitted a similar report. Sorry.
