HELP....I MESSED UP MY HUSBANDS COMPUTER!

Before I tried to install a new printer on my husbands computer I did an
add/remove of his old printer. His screen went blue and did a disk scan. It
showed several things it couldn't find...to fast to write down, then tried to
restart. As the system is rebooting I get a "sleep mode" box then it goes
into a screen that says it will restart in __ seconds. It says I can choose
to restart in safe mode but the arrows won't move up or down to choose this
option. When the seconds count down the system restarts...goes several
seconds then goes right back into the sleep mode and that count down screen
again. It just keeps recycling. I unplugged it but it still goes through
the same steps. I can't restart his computer. He is running Windows XP.
What should I do.

By your mention of "I did an add/remove of his old printer", do you mean you
uninstalled the software for it in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, or do you
mean you deleted the printer from the Printer and Faxes folder or both?

If when you uninstalled/removed the printer/software you were got any message box
stating something like "this file was being shared but no longer is and it will not
have any effect if you leave it, do you still want to delete it" and you chose to
delete it, you may have deleted a necessary file or more if prompted more than once.

If pressing any key at the startup menu doesn't stop the countdown or the keys
don't work, that would indicate the kb isn't being recognized.
As well if the numlock key light doesn't come on it indicates the kb isn't being
recognized.
Check the connection on the back of the machine for the keyboard to make sure it's
properly connected.
When you first boot the machine if you can see the POST watch close to see if the
BIOS is recognizing the kb.
If it isn't recognized and you have access to another known good working kb, swap the
one now used out for the good one.

Post back with the results.

LOL...I think I'll take all your suggestions! Brian A. I appreciate your
help. I was able to hook up my keyboard to his computer and tried all 4
reboot options but nothing worked. It went back to sleep mode and the "final
count down". I talked with our son last night, who bought my husband the
computer several years ago. He said is wasn't an expensive computer when he
bought it and that there was some things happening with it for awhile.
Bottom line... my husband gets a "new" computer. It's apparently not worth
putting much effort into this one. My husband knows a guy who is a computer
whiz and he is going to see if he can at least get back in and extract some
of the info. There wasn't a burner on this one but there will be on the next
one! Thanks again. I do appreciate all your time and help.
InTheDogHouse...but guess he'll keep me around. He needs my "computer
expertise".... :)
