help file transfer

T

Teddy

I am trying to transfer a 60mb file. while we can send instants messages
, this file won't transfer - we get error message about a firewall.
Both machines are standalone, running XP, and connected to the internet
via cable modems. I tried disabling Norton Firewall but the file still
won't transfer.
Is copying the file to CD and sending it through the US Mail my only
solution? What am I doing wrong?

Teddy,
Last evening my son successfully transferred a video file of 79 MB via MSN
Messenger File Transfer from the USA to Belgium. So it's not MSN Messenger
which is at fault.

the error message i get is:

This file could not be sent because the connection is blocked. A firewall
running on your computer or on the network may be the cause. Contact your
network administrator or Internet service provider.

please help

I sure hope someone comes up with a solution to this problem. I get the
exact same message and I'm only trying to send a photo (1,100KB). Got to
believe there is a Firewall (SP2?) setting somewhere that needs to be
changed. HELP.

Hi Teddy,
I am not an expert but as none have answered you question I will endeavour
to help you (I will probably be attacked for doing so). However, you must
provide more information.
I don't think you problem is located within IM. Are you using Windows or
MSN Messenger? You say you disabled Windows Firewall, have you any other
firewall running? Has your ISP put in a Firewall? Does your Audio/Video
operation function normally between users?

i do not use aol. i tried to send a small test file between 2 computers
in the same house. both had their norton firewalls disabled. I then
