Messenger 5.1 XP SP2 cant send files, but can receive them

Hello,

It seems that I can receive files from another user, but cannot send
them. I select "send a file or photo", it tells me that its waiting
for him to accept it, he accepts it, and then nothing. i get an error
message about a firewall.

Is the problem with his firewall or mine? Its strange that I can
receive but not send. I would think they would both either work or not
work at all?

Thanks for any insight,

joe

Waiting for Oliver to accept the file "User20Jan2005.doc" (252 Kb, less
than 3 minutes with a 28.8 modem). Please wait for a response or Cancel
(Alt+Q) the file transfer.

Transfer of file "User20Jan2005.doc" has been accepted by Oliver.
Starting transfer...

This file could not be sent because the connection is blocked. A
firewall running on your computer or on the network may be the cause.

Greetings Joe,

A number of things could be causing this problem. The easiest solution would be to just both
upgrade to MSN Messenger, as it supports a newer file transfer method and can relay files
without a direct connection:

I am running Windows Messenger 5.1, which according to its release
notes, sports a new, improved method for file transfer. Is that the
same method as MSN Messenger you recommended?

I have always been very fuzzy on which I "should" be running, MSN or
Windows Messenger. I am running Windows XP SP2.
Thanks for all you do in this group!
