HELP: error 1721

problem to date:

McaFee virus scan would not uninstall from either Control Panel or from
original MaCafee CD. "Error 1721"

actions taken so far per Googled instructions at:

Safe Mode > cmd.exe > msiexec /unregister > msiexec /regserver (apparently
successfull)

Safe Mode > cmd.exe > sfc /purgecache > sfc /scannow (apparently successful.
apparently 10 unknown changes made)

Still receiving error 1721 when trying to remove McaFee VS

Further Googling unhelpful so far McaFee Tech unresponsive. Intend to
repeat above steps. Thank you in advance for any and all help with this
challenge.

UPDATE:

McAfee Virtual Technician says: "Some problems could not be fixed.
"ViruScan Classic 7.01.6000" "Problem: lanugauge not supported" Session ID
= 3559005

Should I assume this means my version is no longer supported? Or is it a
core WinXP issue? I have kept my McAfee version subscribed and auto-updated.
Also, have repeated steps below with same result.

MS installer cleanup utility failed to intitialize.
