Hello

I have been working on getting the links , related topics , and index in
my help and support working for three months and finally got it right. I
want to run ad-aware , spybot S&D , and CCleaner will any of these mess up my
help and support?
Thanks

They shouldn't but sh*t happens. No one can answer that with absolute
certainty. Also don't run any registry cleaners including the registry
cleaning functions in CCleaner. No one can say for sure what will or won't
happen on your system in the future. Problems do occur with computers, so
the best way to protect yourself against the inevitable is have a good
backup and recovery solution in place.

Look at getting drive imaging program (I suggest Acronis True Image Home,
version 10) and an external hard drive connected via USB, Firewire or eSata
to the computer. Image the computer drives regularly to the external drive,
so if something damages the installation a recent image can be restored.

Thanks for the help , sure do appreciate it. Maybe i should not use
CCleaner. Can you suggest anything to go along with ad-aware , spybot , and
mcafee that might help?
Thanks again.

You're welcome. CCleaner is fine. I use it but only for removing temp
files and such, I don't use the registry cleaning functions. I also use
Windows Defender for active protection from non viral malware, and Spyware
Blaster. Occasionally I will do a Hijack This run to make sure things look
clean.

Personally I wouldn't use McAfee, any of the Norton security products such
as NIS or NAV, or any of the major suites. These programs are resource
heavy and can cause problems sooner or later.

For AV I use Avast, the free version. There is also AVG (free) and NOD32,
not free but excellent.

For firewalls there is Kerio Personal Firewall from Sunbelt Software (free
and paid versions) and Comodo Personal firewall.

I want to thank you again for your fine help. Are the paid versions of
the Avast the same as the free? What about using Avast anti-virus with
windows firewall?
I got eight months left before i have to renew mcafee , would you get
something else now , or would you wait untill mcafee runs out? Dont think
its good to run two
anti-virus programs at once , right?
Thanks

I don't know, I use the free version of Avast. Avast should be fine with
the windows firewall. I run it with Kerio Personal Firewall in XP, and with
the built in Firewall in Vista.

Whether you should change now is a decision you have to make. If there are
any problems with McAfee then I would ditch it ASAP. If you're happy with
it, then leave it till the subscription ends.

You can have more than one AV installed, but only have one set to do active
scanning.
