Help and Support in WindowsXP Does Not Work

B

Bill Jackson

Today I had an occasion to go into Help & Support to check out some issue. When I clicked on Start/Help and Support, I received an error message which read "Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system service is not running. To fix the problem, start the service named 'Help and Support'.

I went to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/ and clicked on Services. Once there, I went down the list to Help and Support, double clicked Help and Support, then clicked on Start. At this point I received another error message which read "Could not start the Help and Support service on local computer. Error code1083: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service." I have no idea what this error message means.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I fix this problem. Thanks.

You have to be on-line only if you wish Help and Support to contact the
Microsoft Knowledge Base and search further for an answer to your question.

Help and Support works fine, even without an internet connection. It then
just searches the local help resources - which are tremendous by the way!

Hi There,

When I go to Help and Support (XP Home Service Pack 2) I get nothing,
when I click on the icon, no error messages, no screens, no nothing!

I checked Help and Support Service and that is running automatically!

Any suggestions!

Hope you can help!

Cheers

Hi Wesley Vogel,

Hope you are well and enjoying your day!

Thanks for your help.

I ran the program

%Windir%\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\HelpCtr.exe

But still nothing happens! I do have this program in

C:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\HelpCtr.exe

and

C:\windows\pcheath\helpctrl\binaries\HelpCtr.exe

Any other suggestions?

Cheers

Big D
