Open Start, Run, type without the quotation marks 'services.msc' and click OK. Double-click the 'Help and Support' service and check its status is 'Started' and its startup type is 'Automatic'.

Hi

To add to Daniel's posting, if I may, have a look at the Dependencies tab -
right click on a Service>Properties>Dependencies.

Hi

Is that Service running? If not, right click on it and select Start.

Hi Daniel,

my problem is that the Help and support service does not even show up in the
services' list. This service should have added itself allone during
installation but it did not. I have all the latest service packs installed
and the service still does not show up. How do I add it? I am getting MCC
errors in Exchange, ISA and SQL. We are running Win Server SBS 2003 Premium
Edition R2. Running it on a Dell Poweredge SC440.

Your help is greatly appreciated,

Ikis

If the "Help and Support" service is not in the list, download helpsvc.zip from this
location:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/helpsvc.zip
Extract the helpsvc.reg file to your desktop, right-click it and click Merge on the
menu that appears, and OK the confirmation message to add it to the Registry.

After that, "Help and Support" should show up in the Services list, and you can then
do this:

Click Start> Run, type:
Services.msc
Click OK.

In the Services window, scroll down and find "Help and Support" in the list and
double-click it.
Set the Startup Type to Automatic, and then click the Start button to start the
service.

Hi glee:

I have tried what you said but it did not work; i.e., the service still
doesn't show up in the list of services. Does the service actually read as
Help and Support from the list? I don't see any services ' name even contain
the word help or support.

What do do next? Like I said I am getting a lot of MMC errors.

Your continued help is appreciated,

Ikis

Your quite sure you merged the .reg file in the downloaded .zip file I linked?

Did you try restarting after merging the file?

Do you have the same contents of the .reg file appearing in this registry key, when
you look there with regedit?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\helpsvc
I am getting MCC errors in Exchange, ISA and SQL.

I'm not sure if you should be asking in a Windows XP group, then. Be that as it
may, what errors exactly?

Have you looked here?

Hi glee,

I managed to restart the server at lunch today and the service appeared and
I was able to start it.

Thank you very much,

Ikis
