"Help and Support" does not work

G

Guest

I am running Windows XP Pro.

"start>Help and Support" stopped working in the last week.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE\helpctr.exe exists
and if I double click it, nothing happens.

Any help will greatly be appreciated.

For the Help and Support issue, here is a couple of options starting with a
DLL registration. (Proceed to next method if one fails to resolve the
problem):

Type in Start, Run dialog:

helpctr -regserver
regsvr32 itss
regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx
regsvr32 jscript

Fix Windows XP Help - from Doug's site:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/fix_windows_xp_help.htm

In _nothing_ helps, try reinstalling HelpCenter:

Open %systemroot%\inf folder and locate the PCHealth.inf file (might show as
PCHealth in W.Explorer). Right-click the file and choose "Install". Insert
your XP CD when prompted. If you have a Service Pack installed, be sure to
point to the %Windir%\i386\ServicePackFiles folder, or your slipstreamed XP
CD (if available).

RAMESH:
HELP!
I keep getting a "Star" at the bottom of my toolbar that says, "Your system
may be at risk" (and may not be genuine).

It asks me to go to the website to register my product key but I go to the
website and nothing happens.

My Product Key is : 76487-OEM-0056395-08023
WHERE can I go to the Microsoft Website and register this Product Key so I
don't have the "Star" at the bottom of my toolbar? I've registered this
before w/ no problems and now I'm getting notified after 7 months later.

I look forward hearing from you.
Respectfully,
Bill

This sounds like a scam to me? Luckily the number you posted here is not the
product key and is just the Product ID.

If you had actually posted your real Product Key here, you would likely end
up having to purchase another.

What website are you being directed to to register the key?

G

Guest

Well, I click on the star (on my toolbar) and it directs me to this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/pu...id=72c032e2-6ed9-44be-8476-5b853eaae45b&msg=3

I have no idea WHY it's giving me this but....after I spoke with WINDOWS
Tech Support, they told me to go to:
1. Start
2. All Programs
3. Accessories
4. System Tools
5. Click "Activate Windows"

Did this. Why am I still receiving the "Star" on the bottom of my toolbar
that says, "Your system maybe at risk" ?

When I RIGHT mouse click on the icon, I get options and one of them asks me
to "Purchase a Genuine Windows License". What is going on here?

If I already have Windows "Activated"....why is it telling me my system
maybe at risk and then diverts me to the website (which I've sent you).

I look forward hearing from you.
Thanks :)

Here's the Options:
1. Validation Failure Details
2. Purchase Genuine Windows License
3. Benefits of Genuine
4. Change Notification Settings

* When I click on (1), (Validation Failure Details), it gives me this info
on the website:

Validation Not Completed: Invalid Product Key [0x80080205]
Why did it not validate?

There are several reasons why a product key may not be valid.

You chose to validate by the alternative (non-ActiveX) validation method
which requires a download of an executable. The executable needs to run in
native mode and it was run in a special compatibility mode for another
operating system.

The product key stored on your computer has been tampered with. If Windows
came pre-installed on your computer, please see the steps you can take below

Any ideas HOW I fix any of these problems ???

Thanks!
Bill :)
