Having to close IE

R

Ryan Russell

MSAS requests that you close IE in order to take any
action against an identified threat. In my case, I'm
almost always choosing "ignore always", since it has
identified something in my collection I keep, not
something that is currently installed. I can't think of
any good reason I would need to close IE if I'm just
telling it to ignore. It would be nice if it were a
little smarter about when IE needed to be closed.

What if you accidentally told it to ignore CoolWebSearch
or ABetterInternet? Both are browser hijackers. In
order to properly deal with these problems, the browser
MUST be closed since files that are currently being
accessed by IE are associated with these two infections.

Also, what is it flagging as spyware?

Something buried deep within the program might actually
be spyware, which is why MSAS is flagging it as such.

Also, make certain this is not happening when logged into
a limited user account. If it is, then the problem is
because the current release only supports the
administrator account that installed the app. What you
might be experiencing is the app detecting that a change
has "occurred" to a part of your system. What I mean by
this is MSAS checks what settings are currently being
used and the current state of the system and comapres
those to that of the administrator account's settings.
If these are different, it flags the changes as spyware
or browser hijack attempts (usually the later of the two).
