Having some difficulty deleting IE favorites

I have a PC running XP Home SP2. IE 6 SP2 is my web browser. There
are several websites added to my IE favorites list. However, I'm having
some trouble deleting them. Supposedly, all you need do is highlight a
favorite place, right-click, scroll down and select 'delete'. Simple.
Sometimes that works, but sometimes nothing happens. If I right-click and
select delete again, a message pops up saying..."Cannot delete file. Cannot
read from the source file or disk." If I close out IE, open it, and check
the favorites list again, those favorites are now gone.

Obviously, this is more of a minor glitch than a problem, but I'd be
curious to get some feedback as to why this happens.

For the record, I have up-to-date anti-virus software running, XP and
router firewall running, Automatic Updates turned on, regularly run and
update Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D.

I believe this is a common (and minor) annoyance/glitch. It's simply that
the Favorites aren't update all the time right away. If you move to another
folder in the Favorites menu (or close the menu), then back to where you
removed the favorite from, you'll notice the bookmark you deleted is gone.

Maybe this is a glitch with XP because I have another computer running
Windows ME and I can delete IE favorites there with no hang-ups.

I've noticed that too.

No, I see now that the glitch happens on my Windows Millennium
computer too.
