Can't Delete Some Favorites From Windows XP

T

techie0602

A friend of mine has a bunch of URL's and folders saved under her
Windows Favorites list that can't be deleted. Based of the names of
them, they seem to have been placed there by spyware/malware etc. I
have run multiple spyware and malware programs and deleted everything.
A virus scan turns up nothing. You can click on them, but you cannot
right-click to access the Delete function...nothing happens. If you go
to Organize Favorites on the IE Toolbar, these same URLs and folders
don't even show up in the list at all.

Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas on how to get rid of these
unwanted Favorites?

Thanks to anyone for your help!! :)

Yes, this is a common signature of hijackware.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
