hard drive space error???!!!

my boss's computer has an 80 gig drive. and only 10 gigs
are taken up. but everytime i try to install anything it
says there is no drive space left. how can this be.
windows is reporting the full space and free space
correctly but something is amiss. please give me some
ideas of what to do. thanks

1 - ensure contiguous block of HD available; defrag HD if
necessary
2 - ensure CMOS settings are correct

There are several things to look at. For one, have you
emptied the Recycle Bin lately? (or turned down its
settings). Another is to run ChkDsk/f (from the Run prompt
on your Start menu)... your computer will run ChkDsk next
time you reboot and look for problems with the hard disk.
A final thing you might check is whether you have set
aside a lot of space for your browser to store temporary
files. This is a settings in e.g. IE's /Tools /Options.
