Western Digital 160gig hard drive

Just bought a new Western Digital 160gig hard drive.

After all set up it only shows
Free Space 145gig
Total Space 149 gig
After transferring 3.2 gig to it after formating it still
showed the same.
But if I right click it and go to properties it shows
Used space 3,718,348,800 bytes
Free space 156,320,890,880 bytes
Capacity 160,039,239,680 bytes

Why doesn't My Computer show the correct amount ?

Because one of the amounts is in base 10 and the other is in base 2.

Remember, 1000 x 1000 x 1000 = 1,000,000,000 in base 10
In base 2 1024 x 1024 x 1024 = 1,073,741,824 times 149 = 159,987,531,776 or
160Gb.
