hard drive or memory problem or ????

I have an e-machine. I am running windows xp home edition. If I leave my
computer on for an hour or so it will crash. I get a blue screen. At first
I though it was a software problem so I used the restore cd provided by
e-machines to reformat my hard drive. After doing this, my computer would
not boot up. It kept getting to a certain point a would keep re-booting. So
finally I turned it off. I then took out the memory chip and put it back in.
After this, it would boot up. But I am still having the same problems.
Every time I get the blue screen there is a different error message. Below
are two of them.

1. NTFS.sys – Address F76E80BC base at F76E2000, Date Stamp 3c58aa0

2. A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited
or been terminated

I am now thinking it might be my hard drive. Is there any way to check and
see if it is in fact the hard drive. At the bottom of the blue screen it
says it has done a Physical Memory Dump.

I don’t know but maybe this information will give some clues as to what is
wrong. I have some EA Sports games that I a playing and right in the middle
of the game the program will shut down.

I hope I have provided enough information to help me resolve my problem.

Thanks for your time

It certainly does sound like a hardware problem. Here are general
hardware troubleshooting steps:

Emachines are built with the cheapest parts available. Bring it back and buy
something better.

If your machine has an Athlon CPU, check your system temperature. Your
fan may not be working properly, and may cause an increase in heat over
time that cause either your CPU or your memory to overheat. Try a free
program called S2KCTL if you have the Athlon. It may solve your problem.
