I've read many posts concerning this subject. All I have found are
workarounds, no real solutions. I have installed Windows XP many times with
no problems. I recently purchased a new Serial ATA hard drive. While I am
able to install it with the drive on SATA3 and SATA4 (ALi SATA/RAID), I
would much rather have the drive hooked up to SATA1. That way, I don't need
to hit F6 to add the drivers for the onboard RAID.
BIOS detects the drive, and I am able to get through the first part of a
clean install. By the way, I install WinXP by booting from the CD. After
it restarts to enter into the GUI portion of setup, I get that message
saying the HAL.DLL is missing or corrupt.
I cannot see how the problem is the hard drive, as I did have Windows
installed on it. Could I have a bad disc, or a bad CD drive?
