Error Message during XP Installation

I own a laptop computer with Vista Home Premium built in and am currently
trying to install XP Professional as a second operating system. the hard
drive is correctly partitioned, but every time I put in the setup CD and have
BIOS boot up from the CD drive to read the CD on startup, the following
message appears:

Line 9986 of the INF file \i836\txtsetup.sif is invalid.

What does this error mean and how can I repair it?

You need first to check that this laptop have the drivers for XP to
support. Check the laptop manufactuer website or your manual for such a
information.

Install Windows XP
in a Dual Boot with Pre-installed Windows Vista

Txtsetup.sif is a setup information file (.sif) used by (among other
things) the Windows PE (Pre-install Environment) during installation of
Windows.

If you are using a retail CD, it may be dirty or scratched. If you are
using an OEM CD, it's not coded to work on your PC.

What are the device driver requirements for XP?

Actually, I am using an ISO image I downloaded from MSDN, which was burned
onto a DVD. is it possible the image didn't correctly burn onto the DVD?

Sounds as if you actually burned the ISO image rather than used a
burner that would break the ISO image down into it's component parts
and then burn it.

Google "imgburn" to get a good free one.

I'm using the "Free Easy Burner" program.

I know the ISO can be big size and a headache to download again, but try to
redownload it again and use a rewritable DVD to burn it into. I can assure
you some DVDs they are useless before you get them out of the package.

Try a well known make, like verbatim CD/DVD.
If the ISO download was interrupted, you may end up with a bad ISO package.
Or another test try the DVD on another Machine and see if that will boot up!
Again, when I said about your Laptop support or have the Drivers for XP.
Some machines coming out with Vista doesn't support XP drivers, so check or
give us your Laptop model number and make to check it out and let you know.

Thank you for your help guys, I've got the CD reading properly now. But, now
I keep getting the following error message during the first phase of the
installation process:

"Stop: 0x000007B"

How can I fix this?

This error indicate hardware problems or a driver not found/supported.
Advanced troubleshooting for "Stop 0x0000007B" errors in Windows XP

You receive a Stop 0x0000007B error after you move the Windows XP system
disk to another computer
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314082/

*** STOP: 0x0000007B

Note: don't delete the Vista Partition or you will end up with unusable
machine No XP (as it may the drivers for it not supported) nor Vista the main
OS for that Laptop.
Check the amnufactuer website for downgrading the machine to XP. If they say
you can do it then your machine support XP drivers and you need to
troubleshoot for Hardware drivers damaged/corrupt and for Viruses.
The question is: Why you trying to have XP beside Vista and does Vista
version 32 Bits or 64 Bits?
