hi all, hoping I could get some advice, I know its a
little unrelated but heard the folks in here might be able
to help me. I'm looking to bye a new graphics card
preferable something with a bit
of guts in it but don't have a huge budget (am help desk
for small factory) but done a little research and came up
with these 4 cards I don't know to much about the graphic
side of things and don't have a lot of time at the moment
to study up so was hoping someone could tell me which one
they recommend the most or if there's better ones out
there (around the same price)

AOpen Aeolus FX5600XT/AGP8x 256MB
Asus FX5200 V9520/TD/256MB, AGP, TV Out
Radeon 9200 3D AGP 8x Support 256MB
Gainward FX Pro680TV-DVI /AGP 8x 256MB

Thanks for your help

I know it's a bit OT, but I have a Radeon 9600XT 128MB, and it's works
famously. It is, however, probably around 50% to 100% more than the 9200
mentioned below... but unfortunately, that it my only basis for comparison.
Sorry I can't offer any more advice.

Before you BUY a new graphics card you should decide what
you want it to be able to do. Do you want TV out to use a
TV set as the display, do you want DVI to use a digital
monitor for the crispness, do you want to play the latest
games at full speed and high resolution, then you'll need a
high end card.

If you buy a card from a "name brand" company they will be
around to supply firmware updates and drivers, a no-name
company may use a good name chipset but do it poorly and
they may not be around to supply tech support and drivers.

Check reviews at Tom's Hardware, Tech TV, and other sites.

Forget the oem versions with a brand name chipset. Stick with the total
brand name.
I'm running an ATI 9200 Pro, 128mb, 8x AGP, DX9 compatable, tv out, dual
monitor support.
For the money this card rocks. I'm playing all the newest games with this
card on a 1ghz pentium 3 with 512 sdram and they work flawlessly. The card
handles anything I throw at it. I reccomend you at least stick with ATI or
Nvidia, but Nvidia drivers can be troublesome. You won't be dissapointed
with the ati 9200. If you have the $, go for the 9600 or 9800.

If the FX5200 is not an Ultra, remove it from you list

Now you have three to choice from

Does you Mobo have AGP8x? If not, remove all from your list

unless you thinking about purchasing a new MoBo in the future
The AGP8x cards will work in AGP4x or less, just not with their full potential, stick with what you have

Another words, it comes down to your MoBo and what you play on doing (game playing. video editing, etc.

Don't bother getting the FX 5200. It is one of the worst ever gfx cards
Nvidia ever made. I hate to say it, seeing how I have always used Nvidia
cards, but your better off sticking with the Radeons. The FX series was a
huge disappointment. Their all just the previous generation of cards with DX
9 support.

I agree, I sued to use Nvidia cards almost religiously, I now use ATI, they are much better.
