Ghost 9.0 - warning

R

Richard Urban

Ghost 9.0 will DELETE image files saved under the following conditions:

1. Create multiple images during setting up a system, say XP-1 - XP-2 - XP-3
and XP-4. Save them to another hard drive.

2. You decide to "roll back" to XP-2 image.

3. When you are again in the operating system, start Ghost 9.0

4. Go to advanced view/history

5. Right click and clear the history.

Now, go and try to find all four of the images you had saved! LOTS OF LUCK!

This is, I repeat -IS, repeatable on "my" system!

This is a serious bug and Symantec had better work on this!

Also, I realize that during the clearing of the "history" that a warning
pops up that the image files will be deleted, but that should NOT happen
during clearing the HISTORY! The actual image files should be left alone.

Only a manual deletion by the user should be able to delete such critical
files.

Serves you right for still using Norton products. I wouldn't get a good
night's sleep with one of those things running on my system!

So let me get this straight. You manually deleted the history. A
message popped up beforehand telling you that by clearing the
history, you would be deleting your image files. You did it
anyway. Now you are complaining because your image files have been
deleted?

Oh come on! Deleting history, any history, should NEVER delete files. It's
just poor practice and shitty programming!

Suppose you have downloaded 1500 songs from a subscription web site (you
paid for them). The history is getting a bit long, and you only need to see
what you have downloaded in the last month. So, you delete the previous
history, Holy shit! The music files are deleted also!!!!

Now - do you really think that files should be deleted along with the
history - in ANY program?

And, by the way. All of my images are duplicated onto CD's also - so I
didn't lose anything.

I am just posting a warning to others!

Bullshit Dick!

Had someone else posted the same outcome as from your little experimentation, you'd had told them they screwed up because they didn't follow the prompts (you just happen to be the first to look stupid, so you're defensive). If your going to use that kind of self-defensive logic, you should be supporting the many that come here with SP2 woes that didn't have any prior problems to their install since THEY GOT NO WARNINGS.

Now - do you really think that files should be deleted along with the
history - in ANY program?

That prompt specifically told you what the outcome would be, now you complain because that clearing history shouldn't function but they way you perceive it does, like in IE. IF it deleted them WITHOUT that prompt, then you'd have a valid complaint. By the way, clearing IE History deletes FILES while giving a PROMPT, Dick!
And, by the way. All of my images are duplicated onto CD's also - so I
didn't lose anything.

Then why do you complain?
I am just posting a warning to others!

Really, and did you RTFM, or just plug-n-chug with the "I always know WTF I am doing" thought process?

As I said, "I'm NOT complaining"! I wasn't damaged.

My original post heading definitely said "Warning". Can't you read?
