has been running fine for some time. He has now come back to be say that he

How can I have installed Defender, passed the Genuine test and it now say

When you install Windows Defender, there is no gurantee that it would
check the validity of Windows at the same time. You could have used the
downloaded exe file, saved on a USB pen drive or CD, and ran the
installation process from there.

Or it could be that only now somebody has reported to microsoft about
sabotage of their system when the serial number was STOLEN and used it
to install the Windows on a non-Genuine system. VLK serialkeys are the
prime candidate for this. You may remember that few days ago somebody
posted a host of serial keys stolen from chinese systems!

It could also mean that the window is giving wrong information. You
could visit this site and reinstall the WGA tool to see if this makes
any difference.

Whtever may be the reason, this has to be resolved once and for all to
embarass any further especially if the system is used for public
demonstration purposes.

Is this a volume license? You can try deleting the data.dat file in
:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows Genuine
Advantage\data. Then run windows updates to validate the system again.
There was a problem in October where the wrong data file was being installed
from windows validation causing the notice that windows was not genuine.
