When I start up windows (XP) the screen locks up and when
I go to task manager it says gcASCleaner is not
responding. What should I do?

If the last operation before shutting down was a cleaning operation, I
believe that there is sometimes a follow-on cleaning that needs to be done
at startup. If you can, I'd recommend leaving it in that state for an
extended period of time--whatever you can reasonably manage--maybe do it
last thing in the evening--to see if it will go ahead and complete whatever
it is trying to do.
