Game Crashes at Startup, AOE2 and MW4

Ok, first lemme say I've tried all the "easy" solutions to this, nothings
worked. I've checked the Tech Support database, no joy.

Problem manifests when I try to start these games. The "Game Loading"
screen comes up, then crashes out, giving the generic "error" message. No
real information in this error message.

Tried reinstalling the game, updating drivers, installing the game on
another puter(running ME, game runs fine there). I'm Running XP Pro, have
DX9c running(doens't work with b either though).

Friend who knows a few things had me check the "manage" option in XP, and
under applications it's listed as a 'generic' error message, however, at the
same time under the system option shows an error generated by a "Bad
block/CDrom".

Problem is, as I said, this game installs and runs fine on another puter, so
it's not a bad CD, thought it was maybe a bad CDROM drive, as it was an old
drive, so picked up a new DVD drive from Sony, and problem continues. The
same error has happened on my old CDROM, CD-RW, and new DVD drive, and all
three of them couldn't be bad at once. I'm outta ideas. /shrug

Hi Zumino,

Is this a new problem that's just started recently? If so give
system restore a try and see if it resolves the issue.

Let us know..

Hi Zumino,

Try copying the contents of the CD to your drive while you
have yor antivirus disabled, and then install it from there. HTH

Yes/No on just starting recently, I upgraded to XP Pro back in Marchish. The
games worked before when I was running ME. I haven't tried
installing/running the games since the upgrade.

Didn't help, I've found a short-term fix, by installing a file that bypasses
the CD check AOE2 works, however, it's a temporary fix, and I don't like
those.
